So, what’s your state lovin’? Keep reading to find out if you’re a Big Mac state or if your neighbors are all about the fries. Either way, we think it’s safe to say: America is lovin’ it!
Which Menu Items Get The Most Love in Each State?
When it comes to McDonald’s menu favorites, the Quarter Pounder stands tall as the reigning champion, claiming the top spot in 9 states. Its timeless appeal, hearty size, and customizable toppings make it a natural choice for burger lovers across the country. However, not every state agrees on what should be crowned the ultimate treat.
Nationwide Favorites with a Local Twist
The crispy, flavorful McCrispy takes second place, favored in 6 states, including Illinois and Maryland, which might just be craving something a little crunchier. As a newer addition to McDonald’s menu, the McCrispy is carving out its own fan base among chicken sandwich lovers. Meanwhile, the ever-classic McChicken—a long-standing favorite with a simpler, no-frills appeal—follows closely, winning hearts in 5 states, including California and Minnesota.
McDonald’s isn’t just about burgers and sandwiches, though. Some states lean toward breakfast favorites, with the Sausage, Egg & Cheese McGriddles topping the charts in Alabama and Mississippi, while Ohio and Michigan prefer Hash Browns.
For those with a sweet tooth, the McFlurry with OREO Cookies finds fans in Nebraska and Rhode Island, offering a mix of nostalgia and indulgence.
The McRib Misses the Mark
Interestingly, despite its cult following and much-anticipated return in late 2024, the McRib failed to claim the top spot in any state. While it may generate plenty of buzz, this barbecue favorite remains more of a seasonal novelty than a true staple.
Surprising State Highlights
Some states show truly unique preferences. In Hawaii, for instance, the Happy Meal is the top-searched item—perhaps reflecting a love for its fun, shareable appeal. Meanwhile, North Carolina bucks the savory trend with a nod to the nostalgic McDonald’s Baked Apple Pie.
So, whether your state is flipping for the Big Mac or warming up to McDonald’s Hotcakes, one thing is certain: there’s a little something for everyone at the Golden Arches.
Who’s Lovin’ What Across the Country?
While individual states often show unique preferences, regional trends paint a broader picture of how McDonald’s menu items capture the hearts—and taste buds—of different parts of the country.
Midwest: McChicken
In the Midwest, simplicity wins the day with the McChicken topping the charts as the region’s favorite. With its dependable flavor, the McChicken continues to be a go-to for anyone seeking a classic chicken sandwich that’s both satisfying and budget-friendly.
Northeast: World Famous Fries
The Northeast has crowned McDonald’s World Famous Fries as its ultimate favorite, proving that sometimes the side dish can steal the show. Crispy, golden, and iconic, these fries have been a staple for decades and pair perfectly with just about any other menu item.
South: Quarter Pounder
The Quarter Pounder tops the list in the South. Its hearty size and bold flavor have made it the undisputed favorite in a region known for appreciating a meal that satisfies. Whether enjoyed plain or with all the fixings, the Quarter Pounder delivers that all-American burger experience Southerners love.
West: A Three-Way Tie
Out in the West, diversity takes the spotlight with a three-way tie between the Quarter Pounder, McChicken, and Sausage McMuffin with Egg. This eclectic mix showcases the region’s varied tastes, with everything from hearty burgers to crispy chicken sandwiches and savory breakfast options capturing attention.
